Baking with Nana

I spent a lovely morning with DGD1, we chatted, we walked to the local shop to buy her a magazine & some sweeties (she bought some for her brother & sister & didn't eat them) & we baked cakes, fairy cakes to be exact, with yellow,orange & pink sprinkles on them. GDG1 is NOT a less in more sort of girl, in fact the sprinkles were patted down firmly with her (very clean) hands to make sure they didn't fall off. When I took DGD1 home DGD2 yet again burst into tears at the sight of me, lol.
I did mean to ake a picture of the cakes, but I forgot.

I love my daughter, but

She phoned today to ask if I could babysit, she'd already arranged a babysitter & been let down. She did ask first if I was busy.
I didn't have the heart to tell her that actually the Minder & I had planned to have a couple of drinks & a couple of hours of wild sex.
So I went to babysit & the Minder is doing tripod impressions waiting for me, so I'm off to bed, night all

Chicken

A while ago I bought 3 chickens from Tesco, 3 for £10, I cooked all of them, we used one that weekend & I put 2 in the freezer. I defrosted one on Sunday & I've used bits of it every day so far this week, I used some in sandwiches as we just wanted a light tea on Monday, today I made chicken, bacon & mushroom pasta bake, tomorrow I shall slice some of the breast, make some stuffing & serve with roast potatoes & veg, Thursday will be Chinese style stir fry & soup on Friday & probably Saturday. Not bad for a £3 chicken.

Work & life

It was very busy at work today, not helped by a problem with one of the servers. I phoned out IT 'expert' & told him I was having problems. He informed me it wasn't the server it was my PC, so to reboot it. I'd already tried that! And I told him so.

'Well it's definitely not the server' he said.

'If that is so, why are all the finance programs down?'

'They aren't' he said

'Oh yes they are' replied all 3 finance staff, in unison.

He scurried off to check, it was the server. Why am I not getting paid as much as him!

We have a broken romance at work, that is the problem with workplace romances, one half of the couple is finding it very difficult to face the other half & spending a lot of time in my room hiding & crying.

My first dress is finished but I cannot take a pic as I cannot get it to stay on the hanger, so here is a pic of the pattern for now.

Dressmaking

I've cut out 2 dresses today in the fabrics above, the fabric was given to me sometime ago & today I decided which pattern to use, it's a Very Easy Very Vogue pattern, I've used it before & it's quick to make. Both dresses are cut & tacked, hopefully I can sew them up tomorrow.

Fifty Shades of Grey

I've just finished reading, Fifty Shades of Grey, first of the trilogy. There has been a bit of a hoo hah about it, some people don't like having to pay for a novel that was originally available for free online. Personally I feel that if the writer has taken the time to write something I want to read then I should pay for it. There have also been complaints that it's too much like the Twilight series, I haven't read any Twilight so I can't comment.

I read a lot of books of all sorts, but I don't read many romance novels.

Fifty Shades is a love story, I read it because it contains a lot of BDSM, something I do know quite a bit about & something that is often written about in a wildly inaccurate way. E L James has portrayed the scene very truthfully, whether through experience or good research I'm not sure, either way it is good to see this subject written about sensibly.

Catch up

Real life seems to be interfering with my online life at the moment, I'm not sure why, I'm not particularly busy, I think it's adjusting to the Minder's shift system that is causing me problems.
I was hoping to make a dress this weekend, but it seems the inlaws are visiting tomorrow so that's put paid to that idea.
Things have been a little strained with the inlaws since the wedding, maybe it was a bad idea to pick a fight with FIL on that day, but I was/am thoroughly pissed off that he tried so hard to ruin the day for us, hey ho, that's families for you.
They don't want a big meal when they are here, just a snack, so I have some chicken marinating in some piripiri sauce & I bought a pack of wraps & salad, so it's piripiri chicken wraps for lunch tomorrow.
We are still picking HG mushrooms & had some with breakfast this morning. We have potatoes planted & some chitting, the back bedroom is looking like a greenhouse there are so many plants in it, I hope we have another bumper year, the Minder gets so much pleasure from gardening.
DGD2 has said her first word, it's 'More' lol.
